Tamil Nadu, India | 6th August 2025: Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast has officially inaugurated its cutting-edge EV assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, located within the SIPCOT Industrial Park. This strategic launch marks a pivotal step in the company’s global expansion journey and highlights its long-term investment in India’s rapidly growing EV market—currently the world’s third-largest automobile industry.
Focus on Premium EV Models and Scalable Production
In the plant’s first phase, VinFast Tamil Nadu will assemble two premium electric SUVs: the VF 7 and VF 6. The facility will initially have a production capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year, with plans to scale up to 150,000 units annually to cater to increasing demand.
This new facility plays a crucial role in helping VinFast reach its 2025 sales target of 200,000 vehicles and its long-term goal of producing 1 million EVs annually by 2030.
Strategic Export Hub for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa
Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, emphasized the importance of the Tamil Nadu facility during the inauguration:
“The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant marks a strategic milestone in our long-term commitment to the Indian market. It establishes a strong foundation for sustainable growth and positions us to offer high-quality, competitively priced electric vehicles to Indian consumers.”
He further revealed that the plant is set to become VinFast’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, with initial orders already secured from several countries in these regions.
